Biomedical Engineering and Imaging Institute (BMEII), Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, 13th Annual Symposium to feature Arianna Huffington, David Rubenstein, Whitney Casey, and Scott Gottlieb
March 19-20, 2025 | New York Academy of Medicine

The Biomedical Engineering and Imaging Institute (BMEII) at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai is thrilled to announce its 13th annual symposium, “beBold: The Forefront of Innovation and Transformation in Healthcare,” to be held on March 19-20, 2025 at the New York Academy of Medicine. With over 20 esteemed speakers from around the globe, the symposium will delve into transformative topics, including Bold Directions in Women’s Health, Bold Execution in Artificial Intelligence (AI), Bold Ideas in Brain-Computer Interfaces, and Bold Science from the Advanced Research Projects Agency for Health (ARPA-H).

Key highlights of the event include two exclusive fireside discussions:

  1. “Bold Discussions” – A conversation between David Rubenstein, Co-founder/Co-Chair of The Carlyle Group and host of Bloomberg Wealth and Peer to Peer, and Arianna Huffington, founder and CEO of Thrive Global, and founder of The Huffington Post.
  2. “Bold Healthcare” – Featuring Whitney Casey, Venture Partner at L Catterton and founder of Finery, alongside Scott Gottlieb, MD, the 23rd commissioner of the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), and partner at New Enterprise Associates.

This year’s symposium will also offer:

  • Poster Session & Innovation Exhibit: A platform for researchers to present their latest innovations and discoveries.
  • Networking Opportunities: Attendees will have the chance to connect with leading experts from various fields in biomedical engineering, healthcare, and beyond.
  • Art Auction & Closing Reception: The event will conclude with a special reception, including live music and a charity art auction.

The theme “beBold” captures the spirit of pioneering advancements in healthcare technology and is best embodied by the newest member of the BMEII team, a cartoon astronaut.  This astronaut “can be seen as a figure that encapsulates the human drive to explore, innovate, and unite in the pursuit of greater knowledge and understanding,” says BMEII Director, Zahi Fayad, PhD.

Previous Symposium Success
Last year’s symposium attracted over 325 participants, including representatives from renowned companies such as Amazon, Microsoft, and Siemens. The event garnered praise for its contributions to precision medicine and healthcare innovation.
